Caring for a live edge resin table.
Every table leaves the workshop finished in Odie’s Oil, a penetrating finish that protects the timber while letting it breathe. It is repairable, which is the point: wear can be refreshed locally without sanding the whole top.
The short version
Wipe with a soft cloth and mild cleaner.
Wipe spills promptly. Use coasters.
Keep away from radiators and direct sun.
Refresh worn areas with oil, not sandpaper.
Everyday care
For regular care, wipe the surface with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. That is enough for dust, fingerprints and general use. Avoid harsh chemicals, silicone sprays and abrasive pads, which dull both timber and resin.
Spills and general use
Wipe spills away promptly with a clean, dry cloth. The oil protects against everyday use, but solid wood is a natural material and should not sit under standing moisture. Coasters and placemats in high-use areas keep the finish even.
Refreshing the finish
Wear, light marking or dullness can be refreshed locally. Apply a small amount of oil to the area, work it in and buff off. No sanding of the whole top, no invasive refinishing.
Environment and placement
Solid wood responds to temperature and humidity. Keep the table away from radiators, underfloor heating outlets and prolonged direct sunlight. A stable room keeps the timber and resin stable.
Resin
Resin surfaces take the same care as the timber. They are harder than the wood but can scratch under grit, so lift rather than drag heavy objects across the river.
Long-term
Your table is designed to be lived with, not preserved. Subtle changes in character over time are part of the appeal. With occasional care it will hold its strength, finish and colour for decades.
