Terms & Conditions
Terms and conditions.
These terms cover bespoke commissions, slabs and bases bought from River Table, and the use of this website. Please read them before you commission a piece or reserve a slab. Draft for review, September 2026.
1. Who we are
River Table is a furniture workshop based in Braintree, Essex. You can reach us on 01376 313333 or at hello@rivertable.co.uk. River Table is the trading name of Gerard Greenan, 6 Chestnut Avenue, Great Notley, Braintree, Essex CM77 7YJ.
2. Commissions
A commission begins when we agree a written specification with you: dimensions, slab, resin colour and finish, base and finish. A deposit of 50% of the guide price, paid online or by bank transfer, secures your slab and your place in the workshop schedule. The final price is confirmed with you once the slab is chosen. The balance is due before delivery or collection.
Lead times are given in good faith and are agreed with your specification. They are indicative, because timber and resin both take the time they take, and we will keep you informed of progress.
Timber is a natural material. Grain, colour, figure, voids and live edges vary, and the finished piece will differ from photographs and from any sample. These variations are part of the character of the piece and are not defects.
3. Slabs sold as they are
Slabs in the ledger are sold as seen, at the price shown, in the condition described. Sizes are approximate and taken at the widest points. Slabs are paid for in full when you buy online. Collection from the workshop is included; delivery, if you would like it, is quoted separately after purchase. One slab, one buyer: a reserved slab is withdrawn from sale until the reservation lapses.
4. Prices and payment
Prices are in pounds sterling. River Table is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to our prices. We accept bank transfer and card payment. Goods remain the property of River Table until paid for in full.
5. Delivery and collection
Slabs are collected from the workshop in Braintree by appointment. Delivery of finished pieces across the UK is quoted per piece and agreed with your specification. Please check access, doorways and stairs before delivery day; we will advise on the dimensions of the finished piece. Risk passes to you on delivery or collection.
6. Cancellation and your rights
Bespoke pieces are made to your specification and, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, are exempt from the 14-day right to cancel once work has begun. If you cancel a commission before work has begun, we will refund your deposit in full. If you cancel once work has begun, we retain 50% of your deposit to cover the work done and the materials committed to your piece, and refund the rest.
If you buy a slab or a base online without visiting the workshop, you have 14 days from receipt to cancel and return it at your own cost, in the condition supplied. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
7. Care and guarantee
Every table leaves the workshop finished in Odie’s Oil with care guidance. We guarantee our workmanship for 12 months from delivery against defects in construction. The guarantee does not cover natural movement of timber, wear, damage from heat, standing moisture or misuse, or pieces that have been modified or refinished by others.
8. Liability
We are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our breach of these terms. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for business losses, or for damage caused by failing to follow the care guidance supplied with your piece. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
9. This website
Content on this site, including photographs, text and the River Table name and mark, belongs to River Table and may not be reproduced without permission. Prices and availability of slabs change frequently and are confirmed when you get in touch.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.
