Timbers

The species we work with.

Each slab is a single species of English hardwood, chosen for grain, movement and the live edge. Availability changes constantly, because every slab is one of one.

English Oak timber: close-up of the grain

English Oak

Strength, durability and a pronounced grain. Bold character and natural variation that suits larger tables and statement pieces, with excellent stability over time.

Pippy Oak timber: close-up of the grain

Pippy Oak

Oak marked with clusters of small burrs across the surface. Lively figure on a stable, workable slab.

Burr Oak timber: close-up of the grain

Burr Oak

Dense burr figure from edge to edge. The most expressive oak, with swirling grain and natural voids that resin stabilises.

Walnut timber: close-up of the grain

Walnut

Rich, dark tone and a refined, close grain. The most contemporary of the timbers we use, and the one most often paired with clear resin.

Elm timber: close-up of the grain

Elm

Expressive grain with natural movement and warmth. Wide slabs that suit a single river on a six to eight seat table.

Ash timber: close-up of the grain

Ash

A lighter timber with a clean, open grain. Brings brightness to a room and takes colour well.

Cherry timber: close-up of the grain

Cherry

Warm, mid tone that deepens with age. A quieter grain that lets the river do the talking.

Sweet Chestnut timber: close-up of the grain

Sweet Chestnut

Similar in colour to oak with a straighter grain and fewer rays. Stable, and lighter than oak for its size.

Sycamore timber: close-up of the grain

Sycamore

Pale and even, with a fine texture. The lightest timber we offer and a natural partner for a coloured river.

Hornbeam timber: close-up of the grain

Hornbeam

A clean, pale timber with a fine, even grain. Subtle character that gives a modern, understated look, and a strong contrast with dark resin.
